Breakthrough Cancer Trust Zambia (BCT) is a non-profit charitable cancer support group established in 2001 whose mission was born out of the need to provide cancer care to the breast cancer patients who come from low income levels of society or the remotest parts of Zambia, as well as support for all breast cancer survivors and their family members through counseling, awareness campaigns, monthly meetings, and sensitization workshops.
To Educate, to Empower and to Serve.
Breakthrough Cancer Trust Zambia (BCT) mourns with the Lauder family the
passing on of Evelyn H Lauder: Founder and Chairperson of the Breast Cancer
Research Foundation (BCRF) and Senior Corporate Vice President and Head of
Fragrance Development Worldwide of the Estee Lauder Company INC.
Born 75 years ago in 1936, Evelyn
died at her home on Saturday 12 November of non-generic ovarian cancer.
Evelyn, who contributed invaluable
insights in fashion trends, new approaches to skin care and development of
successful fragrances including 'Beautiful and Pleasures, was best known for
bringing global awareness to women health. Personal experience with early
stage breast cancer in 1987 got her together with Alexander Peney of SELF
Magazine to create the Pink Ribbon in 1992, as a symbol of breast health.
The Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA)
campaign was launched at the Estee Lauder Companies which to date has
distributed more than 115 million pink ribbons and informational brochures
worldwide.
Being passionately committed to
preventing breast cancer and finding a cure in her lifetime, Evelyn founded the
Breast Cancer Research Foundation in 1993. The BCRF mission is to:
- achieve prevention and finding a
cure for breast cancer by providing funding for clinical and translational
research worldwide and;
- increase public awareness about
good breast health.
The breast cancer survivors and the
fraternity have lost a great, influential and action oriented lady.
May Her Soul Rest In Peace.
